Super Bowl Betting Guide
Patrick Mahomes will get a chance to deliver a Super Bowl three-peat on Sunday night in New Orleans, as the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles meet in Super Bowl LIX.
Here’s a look back at Mahomes’ football journey to Kansas City, from his high school days to his college seasons at two of the best programs in the country.
Where did Patrick Mahomes play in high school?
Hurts, who was born in Houston, attended Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas. He was only rated as a three-star prospect.
Where did Patrick Mahomes play in college?
Mahomes went to Texas Tech, where he made his first career start as a freshman against the Texas Longhorns.
Mahomes spent three years with the Red Raiders, putting up gaudy passing numbers but with a losing record as a starter. Mahomes went 13-16 as a starter, but as a senior threw for 5,052 yards and 41 touchdowns, while rushing for 12 touchdowns.
Patrick Mahomes NFL Draft history
The Kansas City Chiefs selected Mahomes with the 10th overall pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Mahomes was the second quarterback drafted in 2017, behind Mitchell Trubisky, who the Bears selected with the No. 2 pick.
The Kansas City Chiefs fell short in their quest to complete the NFL’s first-ever championship three-peat when they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
Though the reasons for the Chiefs’ loss were many, former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III took to Twitter to share his thoughts on what made the game go sideways for Kansas City.
In Griffin’s assessment, the Chiefs’ offensive line was to blame for Kansas City’s latest Super Bowl defeat, continuing a concerning trend from the team’s loss to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.
Take a look at what RGIII said about the Chiefs’ loss on Twitter:
The Chiefs’ offensive line did them in for both Super Bowl losses.
— Robert Griffin III (@RGIII) February 10, 2025
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes didn’t do Kansas City any favors by throwing two early interceptions, but the abysmal performance of the Chiefs’ offensive line certainly didn’t help the veteran signal-caller play well.
Fans can expect Kansas City to make moves to fix its offensive line in the offseason as the Chiefs look to the future.
The 2025 NFL draft features one of the deepest tight end pools in recent history, but the wide receiver class lacks stardom. Both position groups took center stage at the Senior Bowl as top prospects from around the country converged on Mobile, Ala. Several potential targets for the Kansas City Chiefs made strong impressions.
Senior Bowl attendees compete in three days of practices and the culminating game. Throughout the week, receivers compete 1-on-1 against cornerbacks, while tight ends compete against linebackers and safeties in receiving and blocking drills. Receivers and tight ends also participate in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 sessions during practice.
The Senior Bowl routinely serves as a proving ground for elite prospects. Tank Dell, Trey McBride, Ladd McConkey, Puka Nacua, Ricky Pearsall and Jayden Reed attended the game within the past few years. The Chiefs could land their own impactful Senior Bowl alumni this spring.
Below are five prospects who moved up draft boards after their performances in Mobile:
The Kansas City Chiefs will face an uphill battle to get back to the Super Bowl after seeing their hopes of completing the NFL’s first-ever three-peat go up in flames against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
A key flaw in Kansas City’s game plan for the Eagles was the blocking schemes deployed by the Chiefs’ offensive line. Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes faced constant pressure from Philadelphia’s defense, which didn’t have to send more than four pass-rushers to keep the two-time MVP under duress.
If Kansas City intends to earn the chance to keep its dynasty afloat for another season, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach will need to reload his team’s offensive line in the 2025 NFL draft.

The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine kicks off the full evaluation process of the next class of rookies preparing to enter the league. The Kansas City Chiefs, due to their late postseason runs, enter another NFL draft with late-round picks.
Chiefs general manager shared his thoughts on the team’s process while selecting late in the draft each season during his combine press conference on Tuesday.
“It becomes more difficult, and that’s why the league is so great,” said Veach. “The more you win, the harder it’s supposed to be, and so when you have a bunch of guys who are the top of the market for their position, and you pick last or close to last every year, it becomes very challenging. We just have to think outside the box and put some creative plans together.”
The Chiefs have hit it big with late-round licks in previous seasons, with players such as Isiah Pacheco and Trey Smith going in the late rounds. Kansas City is currently slotted at 31st overall in the first round of this April’s Draft.
