The New England Patriots are expected to be one of the more aggressive teams in free agency and the 2025 NFL draft. They need to address multiple areas of need, and Drake Maye’s surprisingly fast emergence as a franchise quarterback has sped up the clock for the front office.

It’s a unique spot to be in as a rebuilding organization that is also in a win-now mode. The Patriots can’t afford to drag their feet through the offseason with minor upgrades on both sides of the ball.

One look at what the Washington Commanders achieved this season with Jayden Daniels at quarterback should spark a sense of urgency in New England. The Commanders went from missing the playoffs for three straight years to the NFC Championship Game in the 2024 season.

One incredible offseason could turn the Patriots back into a perennial contender. It all starts with free agency, where I expect the team to address the wide receiver position and reload on the offensive line. They might even add another talented cornerback to play across from Christian Gonzalez.

This 2025 NFL mock draft gets a bit chaotic with multiple trades in the first round. Here’s who the Patriots came away with in our latest mock piece:

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has a good idea of what his perfect No. 1 receiver would look like.

The rookie signal-caller got to throw to some of the best wide receivers in the NFL when participating in the Pro Bowl. That list of standout receivers includes Cincinnati Bengals star wideout Ja’Marr Chase and Jacksonville Jaguars’ Brian Thomas Jr.

Maye appeared on 98.5 The Sports Hub on Super Bowl radio row and revealed his ideal wideout.

“I think guy that can win one-on-one, a guy that has feel in zone, and a guy that just wants the rock in his hand—wants the ball and wants to go make plays,” said Maye.

Please get him a star!

The Patriots could make a splash in free agency and land a playmaking wide receiver. They’ll be entering the offseason with the most salary cap space in the league and the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft.

A player like Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, who is set to test free agency this year, could potentially check every box Maye mentioned.

Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt received one fifth-place vote for Assistant Coach of the Year. The vote was placed by CBS Sports’ Aditi Kinkhabwala.

There is a slight case to be had for Van Pelt winning the award. After all, he helped in the impressive development of rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

It was a strong NFL start for the 22-year-old signal-caller in a year where he didn’t start the whole season and played behind a struggling offensive line. The team also lacked standout talent at the wide receiver position. Yet, Maye still finished the year with 2,276 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The offense as a whole struggled in New England with the unit ranking 31st in total offense with an average of 291.9 yards per game.

Van Pelt did his best to create a cohesive offensive unit with the pieces available to him, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to turn things around or save his job with the team.

After firing Jerod Mayo, the Patriots hired Mike Vrabel as their new head coach and brought back Josh McDaniels for a third stint as the offensive coordinator.

Former Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley hasn’t forgotten the defensive dominance the New England Patriots displayed at Super Bowl LIII.

When appearing on the “Run Your Race” podcast, the former All-Pro running back claimed the Patriots were so prepared for that matchup that it was an easy game for them.

“Talking to a couple of the Patriots defensive players, they were like, ‘Yo bro, this the easiest game we’ve ever played in,” said Gurley. “They were like, ‘We just knew y’all was coming with some stuff like at halftime or whatever.

“Y’all just never made no adjustments.’ That’s no shade to any coaches or anything like that. We just didn’t execute offensively. …They just thought we were just gonna come out in the second half, make some crazy adjustments. They were just like, ‘Honestly we’ve never played a game that easy.’ You know from like an X’s and O’s standpoint.”

The defensive game plan was masterful for the Patriots, who held the Rams to only three points and 260 total yards on offense in a 13-3 win. Gurley was held to only 10 carries for 35 yards.

It was a surprising defensive showing by the Patriots against a Rams team that had the No. 2-ranked scoring offense behind the Kansas City Chiefs. That performance led to the sixth and final Super Bowl win of the Patriots’ dynasty.

Could a New England Patriots division rival be undergoing a shakeup?

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was at the WM Phoenix Open enjoying a golf event, when he was asked about his status with his current team.

The Jets recently hired former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn as their new head coach, and many have wondered what that means for Rodgers’ future in New England.

“I’m just enjoying my time right now. I’ve talked with the Jets. If we can figure things out, we’ll figure them out,” Rodgers told Golf Channel’s Kira Dixon.

One of the Patriots’ four wins came against the Rodgers-led Jets team. They eked out a 25-22 victory in Week 8 of the regular season.

Like the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins, the Jets are a team the Patriots will keep a close eye on considering they face each other twice each year in the AFC East. So whether Rodgers stays or goes will be big news for the franchise.

Rodgers is coming off a 2024 season where he recorded 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The Jets ultimately finished the year out with a 5-12 record and third-place ranking in the AFC East division.

Will Rodgers return in 2025, and if so, what kind of changes will the Jets make to improve their playoff chances? All eyes will be on the quarterback position in New York during the offseason.

Former New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins is set to join Bill Belichick’s staff at North Carolina. The former All-Pro defender confirmed the news with TMZ Sports on Friday.

“I’m trying to step into another lane that I think I’d be great at and that’s coaching. Blessed for the opportunity,” said Collins. “My guy [Belichick], I love that dude. He love me, obviously. You know, he can’t get rid of me. So we’ll see how that work out. I’m grateful, man. I’m shocked, but I’m grateful.”

Collins is unsure of his role on Belichick’s staff, but he hopes to work extensively with North Carolina’s linebackers. This would be his first coaching opportunity at the collegiate level, and he’ll be doing it under one of the greatest coaches of all time.

Belichick drafted Collins in 2012 with a second-round pick. After four years together, Collins was traded to the Cleveland Browns. He returned to New England for the 2019 season, before signing a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions.

However, he ended up back in New England for a third and final time to finish out his career from 2021-2022. He’ll now be working to pass on some of the knowledge he learned from Belichick as a player to the next generation of NFL stars.

Nick Foles roasts Tom Brady after Eagles win second Super Bowl

Nick Foles just can’t help himself when it comes to getting a dig in on former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

The former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback took to social media after the Eagles knocked off the Kansas City Chiefs in a 40-22 blowout victory at Super Bowl LIX.

Brady worked the game as a play-by-play analyst, which means he’s been in the building for both of the Eagles’ Super Bowl wins. The other victory came back in 2018 when Brady was the quarterback for the Patriots, and Foles led the Eagles to a surprising upset win over New England.

“It’s really cool that Tom Brady got to be there for the Eagles’ two Super Bowl wins! He might be a good luck charm. Have a great night!” Foles posted on X.

Losing to the Eagles in the Super Bowl is one of those games Brady surely wishes he could have back. Granted, Brady had a lights-out performance in that game with 505 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

It was one of the all-time great Super Bowl performances that ended in defeat for Brady and the Patriots. Don’t expect Foles to let them forget it anytime soon.

Tom Brady turned heads at Super Bowl LIX with $600,000 watch

Former New England Patriots quarterback and current FOX Sports broadcaster Tom Brady wore a spiffy watch while in the booth for Super Bowl LIX’s matchup between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

Per sports and business writer Joe Pompliano, the watch Brady was wearing looked like a Jacob & Co. Caviar Tourbillon. It’s a watch estimated to be valued at around $600,000.

Even when Brady wasn’t on the field, he was still getting attention at the Super Bowl through his fashion and work as a commentator. It was his first time working in the booth for a Super Bowl, which is a major contrast to competing in 10 of them as a player.

As the adage goes, “If you look good, you feel good.”

The NFL legend wore his Sunday best at the biggest event of the season. Something tells me this won’t be the last time Brady is styling and profiling at a Super Bowl.

Bill Belichick, girlfriend break internet in Dunkin' Donuts commercial

Former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick appeared in a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial alongside his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, and the internet absolutely lost it.

In addition to Belichick, the commercial also featured actors Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck and Jeremy Strong.

It has been a busy year right out of the gates for the legendary coach with television commercials, talk shows and taking over as the new head coach at the University of North Carolina.

The ad featured the return of the “Dunkings” battling for the best coffee brand. There were subtle, yet fun, jabs at Starbucks in the commercial.

Belichick had a lone line toward the “Barista Buds” after they threatened to “roast” Dunkin’ like a “dark seasonal roast with coriander and slight balsamic drizzle.”

“Sounds like what’s in my garbage disposal,” said Belichick.

Patriots shake up board with blockbuster mid-round trade in 7-round 2025 mock draft

The New England Patriots are in a unique position where they own the No. 4 overall pick of the 2025 NFL draft with no clear direction of what player to take.

There wasn’t much drama involved in last year’s draft besides the possibility of a trade-down scenario for the Patriots. Everyone knew they’d take one of the three quarterbacks—Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels or Drake Maye—if they stayed at No. 3 on the draft board.

However, this time is different because the team has clear needs at offensive tackle, defensive tackle, cornerback, wide receiver and edge rusher.

There are multiple holes with several projected players good enough to fill them. The hope is that the Patriots address many of those needs in free agency, but this latest mock draft has them adding playmakers on both sides of the ball.

Here’s how the board fell in our seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft:

Browns GM makes admission on Patriots hiring Mike Vrabel as head coach

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry had high praise for New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel at the NFL combine on Tuesday.

The two have ties from Vrabel spending the 2024 season working as a coaching and personnel consultant for the Browns. It was a one-and-done job for Vrabel before he ultimately landed the head coaching gig in New England.

When speaking with the media, Berry acknowledged Vrabel’s exceptional knowledge of the game and claimed the Patriots were “very, very, very fortunate to hire him.”

“He has this infectious energy. He’s a ball coach. He loves being on the grass. He loves being with players. He loves developing young coaches,” said Berry. “…Despite all he’s accomplished, he has the humility of a first-time QC coach in the league.

“He can coach any position on the field, and he has more knowledge in his pinky finger than probably most people would in 20 years of football. New England’s very, very, very fortunate to hire him.”

Browns GM Andrew Berry to @tkyles39 on the value Mike Vrabel brought to Cleveland:

— Patriots on CLNS Media (@PatriotsCLNS) February 25, 2025

Expectations will be high for Vrabel and the Patriots’ coaching staff heading into the 2025 season.

They might not be able to fix all of the problems right out of the gates, but there is hope they will see considerable improvement from the 4-13 team last season.
