Steve Kerr Reveals What Jimmy Butler Brings To The Warriors

The Golden State Warriors made quite the gamble before the trade deadline.

They acquired Jimmy Butler to boost their team’s chances after a disappointing season so far.

Of course, we’ve seen how impactful Butler can be when he’s healthy and locked in.

On the downside, we’ve also seen how he can wreak havoc around him when he doesn’t get his way.

Even so, Butler is a great two-way player and a fearless competitor.

That’s why Steve Kerr believes his demeanor and swagger will be huge in boosting this team’s confidence.

Talking after the win over the Chicago Bulls, the Warriors’ head coach shared his thoughts on Butler’s arrival (via Anthony Slater):

“That’s the key to me. It’s the swagger he gives us. He gives confidence to the rest of the group, including Steph and Draymond…This is the whole point of the deal, to inject that confidence and presence Jimmy brings,” he said.

Some are worried about Butler and Draymond Green being in the same locker room.

They’re both harsh players who don’t mince their words.

Then again, these are all veterans pushing for a common goal.

The Warriors organization has grown used to competing at the highest level and going after NBA championships.

This move proves that they still believe they can win another ring with Stephen Curry at the helm.

Butler will give this team a big boost on defense and another big playmaker for their motion offense.

His fit on the offense is a bit of a question mark, as he’s never been much of a floor-spacer.

Only time will tell whether the Warriors made the right choice, but being able to hold onto their young players in this move was a big win.

Draymond Green Gets Honest About Kevin Durant Rejecting The Warriors

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - AUGUST 07: NBA players Kevin Durant (L) and Draymond Green attend a 2023 FIBA World Cup exhibition game between Puerto Rico and the United States at T-Mobile Arena on August 07, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Golden State Warriors were one of the most active teams in trade discussions during the NBA trade deadline as they desperately tried to find a star to pair with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

The Warriors have slipped in the Western Conference standings due to a mix of a young roster and older veterans, so an infusion of talent was sorely needed.

Golden State eventually got the star they wanted, landing Jimmy Butler in a blockbuster deal that allowed them to send out Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a first-round pick.

Butler now gives Curry and Green a legitimate star option to work with, and the trio will be together beyond this season as the team gave Butler a two-year extension following the deal.

However, Butler wasn’t Golden State’s first choice, as the team was reportedly getting close to a Kevin Durant trade.

Durant rejected a proposed trade to return to the Warriors, but Green, according to Mark Medina of Sportskeeda, wasn’t shaken up by the decision at all.

“Didn’t affect my life one bit. Why would it?” Draymond said.

Green was reportedly a large reason for Durant’s departure from the Bay Area after the two butted heads on and off the court, though, for a moment, there seemed to be a real shot they could reunite.

However, Durant ended up staying put with the Phoenix Suns and now the Warriors get to enjoy working in Butler.

It remains to be seen whether this move resolves Golden State’s issues, but it’s certainly fun to imagine what it would have been like if Durant returned to his former team.

Jimmy Butler Has Honest Admission About Draymond Green

There were plenty of reasons to like Jimmy Butler’s arrival with the Golden State Warriors.

There were more than enough reasons to be worried as well.

Injury-proneness and age aside, Butler’s temper has always been a bit of a red flag.

Add another volatile player like Draymond Green into the mix, and it could be a recipe for disaster.

Nevertheless, so far, things seem to be going well in the Bay Area.

Shortly after making his debut with his new team, Butler admitted to being ‘thankful’ for Green, who’s been very supportive during this time.

Green has also been his quarterback, telling him where to go on the court while he gets used to his new system.

“Hell, I don’t know too many of the plays right now anyway, so he’s definitely telling me where to go on the floor. And I’m grateful, he’s shown me so much grace in understanding I am new here, even though I’ve been around the league for so long. He’s showing me the way, and I’m very thankful for Draymond,” he said.

Both Butler and Green have cultivated a tough reputation around the Association.

They’ve both proven to be strong, vocal, and uplifting leaders.

They’ve also taken things a little too far multiple times in the past.

They’re two proven veterans pushing towards a common goal, and they know that they can get it done if they play together.

The Warriors made a huge gamble by going after an aging player who didn’t seem to want to be there to begin with.

This move could either help them make one final championship run during Stephen Curry’s prime or end it altogether.

Steph Curry Gets Honest About Jimmy Butler’s Presence With Warriors

Steph Curry has now played with Jimmy Butler for two games and he has already noticed a difference.

Speaking to Anthony Slater and the press on Monday following Golden State’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks, Curry talked about what he is seeing from Butler.

“Every possession just doesn’t feel as hard. You still see attention, you still see defense, but you have to worry about something else. … You’re just creating good looks,” Curry said, per ClutchPoints.

Curry and Butler are working well together.

During Monday’s game, Curry posted 38 points, six rebounds, and four assists, while Butler racked up 20 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.

They were a major reason why the Warriors sailed to a win over the Bucks.

During his first two games, Butler has scored 25 and 20 points, and he looks to be seamlessly adjusting to his role on the team.

Some people weren’t sure how he’d fit in Golden State.

Could his style of play work well with Curry and head coach Steve Kerr’s plans?

Plus, would he be able to shake off months of disgruntled play and actually participate and lead?

Things are looking good so far, but time will tell if this is a strong, longer-term partnership.

The Warriors have no time to waste because they remain the 10th team in the West with a 27-26 record.

Thankfully, Butler is playing well so far, and Curry has been on a tear over his last four games.

Could the Warriors be turning a corner, and has Butler joined the team right as they get back on track?

Kyrie Irving Doesn’t Hold Back His Thoughts About Steph Curry

Dallas Mavericks v New Orleans Pelicans

The Dallas Mavericks secured a thrilling 111-107 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night, with Kyrie Irving delivering a spectacular 42-point performance.

As these Western Conference rivals wrapped up their third encounter of the season, anticipation already builds for their final showdown scheduled for February 23.

In the aftermath of this intense battle, Irving took time to share his thoughts on competing against Stephen Curry, offering genuine appreciation for his longtime peer.

The Mavericks guard’s admiration for Curry runs deep, placing him in the pantheon of the NBA’s greatest point guards alongside legends like Magic Johnson and Isaiah Thomas.

“I’ve gone on record saying that, that’s the guy for us as point guards, outside of Magic (Johnson) and Isaiah Thomas, Steph has etched himself as one of the most legendary players of all-time. For me, that’s me just testing my game against him… When you go against the best of the best you want to play well,” Irving remarked.

Their matchups over the years have produced some memorable moments, built on a foundation of mutual respect and understanding.

While Irving has tasted championship success once, Curry’s multiple titles have cemented his legacy among basketball’s elite.

This disparity, however, only fuels Irving’s drive for excellence.

The respect Irving holds for Curry stems purely from their competitive encounters on the court.

He views Curry’s two MVP awards and legendary status not as a source of envy, but as inspiration.

Their relationship exemplifies how elite athletes can push each other to greater heights while maintaining a profound respect for one another’s achievements.

Jimmy Butler Believes Warriors Are The Best Team He’s Ever Been On

The Golden State Warriors have been in a slow decaying process over the last couple of years, but the arrival of Jimmy Butler has apparently infused them with some new life.

They have won five of six games with Butler in uniform, and the six-time All-Star seems to be taking quite a bit of pressure off of Stephen Curry, who has looked like his old self lately.

Butler went to the NBA Finals twice with the Miami Heat, who sent him to Golden State earlier this month, but according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Butler believes this Golden State team is the best he’s ever played on, per Smiley.

Just under three years ago, the Warriors won their fourth NBA championship of the Curry era, but each season since, they have taken step after step toward the league’s underground.

They were under .500 when Butler made his debut, but they now hold a 30-27 record and are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference.

If they reach the play-in tournament, no one will want to face them there, or even in the playoffs, should they qualify for the playoffs.

The real potential of a Warriors team with Butler likely won’t be seen until next season when it has a full training camp with him and is perhaps able to add a few more pieces this summer to augment the roster.

A little more size and offensive firepower could give the Warriors a puncher’s chance at going very far in next season’s playoffs.
